Abstract Lithuanian folk legends about people who see dead souls are under research in the article.

The variants recorded in lietuvininkai region and the analogous variants from the other regions of Lithuania are compared in it. Besides the author strives to evaluate how the fragment of contract of German Order with Prussians signed in Christburg in is related to folklore tradition.

Some regional differences are evident in contents of variants, but the attitude to clairvoyants and to the relations between dead and alive people are the same in all regions. The author draws a conclusion that the variants from lietuvininkai region and those from the other regions of Lithuania are manifestations of the same ethnic tradition.

The picture of dead soul riding on the sky and behaviour of clairvoyants described in Christburg con- tract were not found in the folk legends recorded in all regions of Lithuania.

The author proposes the hypothesis that the information about special participants of Prussian funerals was given not by Prussians themselves.

Antanas Butkus M u s i cal Inst rume nts o f Li thua n ia M i nor an d their S cie nt ific R econstru ct i on Summary Today, we do not have much valuable information left about the na- tional musical instruments of Lithuania Minor-East Prussia in terms of their looks, parameters, architectonic construction, acoustic properties, and the ways of music making.

The instruments or the examples of instru- mental music have disappeared. Starting with the midth C, researchers have not been able to test the use of musical instruments in the life of Lietuvininkai. The space of the spiritual ethnic cultural life was filled with musical instruments brought from Western Europe.

It is only natural that under such historical circumstances only a few musical instruments were left for the researchers of the time in the shape of museum exhibits. The sad con- sequence of the geopolitical peripeteia of the 1st half of the 20th C and the wars was the loss of the few remaining exhibits in the museums. Because of the absence of any actual ethnic - national heritage in our case, musi- cal instruments of Lithuania Minorthe opportunity of their comparison or juxtaposition with other instruments was lost, especially due to the fact that the instruments played in Lithuania Minor were exclusive and unique: they the kankles-harp and the psaltery were, and are, not used anywhere else in the area.

The research is further complicated by the fact that Lithuania Minor does not exist any more, either as a nation in the ethnic sense or as a state in a geographical sense. Consequently, museum exhibits and bibliographic publications spread all over the world or were destroyed.

In such a situation of the ethnographic heritage, the aim of the research was formed: to make an attempt to collect and systematize all the written sources, historical records, engravings, drawings, and photos of the musical instruments of Lithuania Minor.
